Washington D.C. Maymester Practicum

The faculty and the students at Purdue University are extremely excited about the opportunities the 2013 Washington DC Maymester will offer. The trip will allow for unique, hands-on learning experiences for a highly accomplished group of Purdue students. All those involved are tremendously grateful to those who have been willing to donate their time, insight, and resources into making the trip a possibility. Please check back for more updates.

This upcoming May, Project IMPACT through the College of Liberal Arts will offer a Washington, DC, experience for students who wish to closely study the workings of government, its institutions, and the news media which cover it all. Participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with Washington decision makers and visit the corridors of power, from Capitol Hill to the White House to the State Department, and more. Students will utilize facilities at C-SPAN and interact with Purdue alumnus, network founder and CEO Brian Lamb.

The course will be instructed by former U.S. Ambassador Carolyn Curiel, a former White House speechwriter for President Clinton and now a clinical professor in Purdue's Communication Department.  The theme of the practicum is "Washington From The Outside In." Ambassador Curiel is currently working with government and media organizations to provide facilities, tours, lectures etc. during the practicum. The goal of the practicum is to introduce Purdue students to Washington and to connect students to opportunities to future internships and careers in public service and media.

Please continue checking for program updates.
